Anemi Zagori made it IntoHistory.com

Anemi Zagori by IntoHistory.com

Artisanal cheese by Anemi

On Sunday April 5th, the Agrotouristic Guesthouse Anemi in Kato Pedina Zagori, organized an artisan cheese making happening in their restaurant – jazz café. The cheese making techniques were presented by the skilled chef and amateur cheese maker Basilis Paparounas with a long tradition in livestock farming, using the traditional craftsmanship of the Zagori.

50kg of local sheep milk (from nearby village Ano Pedina) were used to produce about 15 different types of traditional Greek cheeses from the region of Zagorohoria and the rest of Greece as well.
Most of the cheeses, except those that were left to age and ripen after they were produced, were served on the spot and were enjoyed by the guests and friends of this friendly and inspiring guesthouse.

Following are some of the cheeses produced at the Dairy School of Kato Pedina… “Only Milk and Love”:

Welcome to the guesthouse Anemi in K. Pedina

We

Lila and Pavlos, tore up our university degrees and abandoned the big city’s lifestyle.  We left Athens a few years ago, choosing Kato Pedina (or Soudena as it was the village’s name in the past) to be our new home.

The plan was right from the beginning to create a “modern” guesthouse.

Thus, we created Anemi (Spinning Wheel in english) hoping to become something more than a guesthouse. A place where interesting people will share interesting ideas!

We renovated an old cottage to create the place of our dreams and now we are very proud and happy to share it with you!

The Guesthouse

Anemi consists of 7 guest rooms, the “magirio” (the old house’s kitchen room) and the farm and it overlooks the highlands of Zagori.

It is a village house!

On the ground floor, where the family’s farm animals were kept in the past, there are two guest rooms: “Karina” (Keel, a reference to our beloved sea!) and the stone room called “Roka” (Distaff), both built on a rock.

On the first floor we find our “baby” room “Anemidi” (Little Spinning Wheel), “Rodani” (another word for the Spinning Wheel) and “Tylichtra” (  ). All three rooms are painted with similar colors as they were before, the old house’s colors. The green, the blue and the yellow room.

“Adrachti” (Spindle) and “Saita” (Shuttle) rooms are on the second floor, having their own private veranda. Adrachti’s colors are a tribute to Zagori’s autumn colors that we love! We leave the internal shutters (the “kanatia” as called in the local dialect) of Saita’s eight windows open to allow the light to fill the room.

Each one of Anemi’s rooms is not only comfortable but also unique, turning your stay in Zagori (also known as Zagorohoria) to a fairytale experience!
